A photo from 1941 has left Reddit users completely baffled.
As technology continues to blur the line between science fiction and reality, some believe this decades-old image is proof that time travel exists.
The photograph, taken in 1941, captures a group of children dressed formally, lined up outside a Chicago cinema. However, one boy stands out—he appears to be holding what many are convinced is an iPad.
Of course, Apple didn’t introduce the first iPad until 2010, a full 69 years later. While the device in the boy’s hands has a slightly different appearance, if it truly is a tablet, it would have to be from a much later generation… or something even more mysterious.

Science continues to turn the impossible into reality—take, for example, a team of Oxford University scientists who successfully teleported particles of light between two quantum computers. Meanwhile, in Russia, a YouTuber has built a fully retractable lightsaber.
Progress is also being made toward creating an artificial sun using a fusion reactor. The goal? To generate unlimited clean energy for humanity indefinitely. By harnessing hydrogen isotopes, just a single gram can produce the same amount of energy as 11 tonnes of coal.
The point is, the brightest minds on our planet are making some of our wildest sci-fi fantasies come true… and no, not those weird dolphin ones.
That brings us to an old photograph recently posted on Reddit, which has ignited a heated time travel debate. The image, taken by Edwin Rosskam, has left social media users stunned.
While the picture offers a fascinating glimpse into the lives of children during World War II, one particular kid has everyone on Reddit talking.
A boy on the far right of the photo has sparked a debate, with some convinced he’s holding an iPad.
Of course, that seems impossible—the first iPad wasn’t released until 2010. But according to some Reddit users, there’s only one explanation… time travel.
“iPad carrying movie-goer, all the way to the right,” one user pointed out, while another declared the photo “proof of time travel.”
Not everyone was on board with the theory, though. Many Reddit users jumped into the comments with more down-to-earth explanations.
“Just getting that early practice pirating films is all. Back in the day of early film, ushers scanned the audience for pens and notepads to prevent bootleg recreations,” one user joked.
Another chimed in: “It’s most likely The Holy Bible. They have their Sunday best on, bless their wee souls. Yes, I definitely think that’s what it is.”
